Don’t expect dancefloor burners here, this time the spanish techno master Oscar Mulero goes deep and low, exploring sonic textures, low BPM grooves and the intelligent side of electronic music.
Melodies, pads, drones and grooves collide in this soulful collection, conceived to be listened as a soundtrack. Oscar is not new to this sounds, in his Grey Fades To Green or Muscle and Mind albums he showcased his abilities in this field as well as with his Av projects Biolive and Monochrome.
‘Ataraxia’ is the first cut, filtered drums, pads, melancholy and floatiness. ‘Surrender The Soul’ follows going completely beatless, just liquid pads and textures, acting as an interlude.
‘On Eternal Power’ returns to rhythmic territories, spiced with soft synth sounds and drones, followed by ‘Unwavering Departure’ and his slow paced groove, resonant hits and the usual pad action. ‘Ouroboros’ is an arpeggiated synth solo again used as an interlude.
‘Embraced To The Last Breath’ runs in the same vein of the previous tracks using just beats and textures to compose a beautiful number as well as ‘Resolution’.
‘Return To Ash’ and ‘Swathed In The Absolute’ are songs in the true sense of the word, with harmonic cadencies and field recordings while The arms of fate goes back to abstract territories, introspective, dense and sad. ‘Finality Of Performance’ closes the album, back to beauty and melody with filtered grooves as rhythm component.
A new step in Oscar Mulero’s ever growing career, showing his studio skills and music taste, far beyond his role as a fundamental techno dj. ‘Perfect Peace’ is out on March 16th.
