A bombing at a club in northern Peru has left at least 33 people injured, including several teenagers, according to authorities.
The explosion happened in the early hours of the morning at the Dalí nightclub in the city of Trujillo, along Peru’s northern coast. Officials say the area has recently faced a surge in crime and violence.
Investigators have not yet confirmed who carried out the attack, and the motive remains unknown.
Health officials reported that at least five of the victims are in critical condition. Some suffered severe injuries, including amputations and shrapnel wounds, and required emergency surgery. Among those hurt were three minors aged 16 and 17.
One witness, Fiorella Mantilla, who was inside the club at the time of the blast, told reporters she initially thought the sound system had suddenly shut off. She later realized that pieces of glass had become embedded in her legs.
A video recorded by a witness and shared by a local newspaper shows people shouting “Bomb!” before rushing out of the club. The footage also captures a woman lying on the floor while bystanders call for help.
The blast comes less than a month after another explosion in Trujillo that damaged around 25 homes but did not cause injuries.
The wider La Libertad region, where Trujillo is located, has been struggling with organized crime linked to extortion and illegal mining. According to official data, there were 286 explosions reported in the region in 2025, including 136 in Trujillo alone, highlighting a growing problem with criminal violence.
