Jeff Mills is known to all of us as the icon and half-god of techno music. He is the person who said “Techno wasn’t designed to be dance music. It was designed to be a futurist statement.” and played a techno-concert with a Symphony Orchestra. He is the techno-scientist and The Wizard, officially.
The legend is preparing a new series of releases called “Axis Audiophile Series” on his label Axis Records. They will be “mastered for high-fidelity sounds”, and pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl at 32-bit/48kHz.
The first in the series will be a live recording of Mills’ band Jino Ohno Mitchel Mills, called after the surnames of its members. The band plays electronic-jazz fusion, and the record will present their first-ever shows in Tokyo and Kobe from September 2015. The release is due in May 2016.
Another news from Axis is that Jeff Mills will release a solo LP “Free Fall Galaxy” – the ninth chapter of “Sleeper Wakes”, his “story”, started in 2014 with “Emerging Crystal Universe”.
It is a series of “science-fiction” releases, which suit perfectly as a soundtrack to a 1969 TV Series “Star Trek”. The highly anticipated LP is due to arrive on “Axis” in June 2016.
Meanwhile, you can read the book about the label and listen to a few tracks by Mills “Sequence: A Retrospective of Axis Records”
