Still a youngblood of Germany’s techno scene, Emerson struck a chord with multilayered techno; enriched in quality and indicative of his synthetic electronic style. Founder of the esteemed Kiddaz.fm & Micro.fon imprints, he has opened the door and brought driving techno from its barren lands to a new territory built upon groove and bounce.
We had a chance to speak with DJ Emerson about his long awaited album ‘Repetitive Music 2’.
What does the title of the LP stand for?
Repetitive music is the term i would describe my style of techno music with. always a bit groovy or even funky but heavy and hard. The combination of kickdrums, Basslines and repetition is the most important and interesting thing in my life. no matter if in my dj sets or in the studio 🙂
What inspired you in the process of producing each of the tracks on this LP ?
Well there is a new wave of techno with lots of interesting and good artists and somehow it reflects a similar style i was sporting as a kid when I started to dj in Berlin. I was basically the only guy who played Glenn Willson or pounding grooves records here for quite a while and this does work again perfectly today! So i kind of went back to the roots and also finished some loopy projects i had from the early 2000s…
What kind of ambiance you were aiming to achieve in this release?
I wanted to make an album only with techno tracks. but all aspects of techno. simply put tracks that work on the dancefloor and sound good on a big soundsystem.
What were your working tools and some of the techniques you used in the studio when creating the tracks?
I work with logic and ableton and all tracks basically start with a bassdrum and a bassline – then i go from there. they only exception was the closing outro track called “Nototrious Smokers”. The only track out of the 17 tunes that isn’t particularly techno but a great trip hop reggae infused closing tune. there I worked with a very well know live musician from Berlin for the very first time.
What is coming next under your sleeve and being cooked in the studio?
I am currently putting together a collab ep and remixes from the album. I am also working on a new kiddaz.fm release and something for Regal’s involved label.
What are your touring plans for the upcoming summer season?
I try to play as many gigs as possible and i am currently planning a huge album tour. i can’t wait to spend my weekends in dark underground locations 🙂
