Having left an indelible mark on respected labels like IMPRESSUM and Filth on Acid, Against All Ødds continues to push the boundaries of music, consistently delivering tracks that are both timeless and original. His artistry has resonated globally, earning him accolades in the competitive realm of electronic music. Against All Ødds recently released his new Reflection EP, and he’s here to tell us more about the release, his journey into electronic music, and his upcoming projects.
Hey, thanks for joining us today. Firstly, can you tell us a bit about the inspiration and the overall theme of your upcoming two-tracker Reflection EP?
I wanted to create two different tracks—one for big dancefloors and the other with a more relaxed vibe for casual drives. ‘Reflections’ has a more robotic, mechanical feel, while ‘Lights Out’ is groovier, with vocals and big synths. I aimed for two tracks that seem different but, in a way, complement each other.
What were your working tools and some of the techniques you used in the studio when producing the tracks?
I press ON (just kidding). I work primarily with ‘In the Box’, but occasionally, I like to mix in external synths to add depth and richness to the sound. I always enjoy exploring new plugins, seeing what’s out there, checking out new materials, and incorporating them into my projects. It’s all about discovering what’s new and fresh on the market and learning how to use it.
How would you describe your sound from an artistic point of view?
I think my sound and style change from track to track; I would say I’m quite versatile in that sense. I like it that way—trying new things and working on different projects. It teaches me a lot each time and makes long hours in the studio much more interesting!
Can you tell us what your day in the studio looks like?
I press ON (just kidding again). I spend a lot of hours in the studio, sometimes even 16 hours a day. I start around 8 AM after dropping off my daughter at kindergarten. If I need to start a new track, I do it when I’m fully awake and inspired. Until then, I focus on touch-ups or lighter tasks in the studio. I like taking small breaks to walk my dog, get some sun and fresh air, and then go back to work.
Do you see yourself more as a producer or a DJ?
I’ve been making music for 20 years now, since I was 14 years old. The world of production is an integral part of my life, and I am very lucky to be able to do it as my profession. With that in mind, I love showcasing my work to people on the dancefloor and seeing how they react to it and how my music makes them feel. It’s like closure to that small idea I started in the studio, like creating something out of nothing.
What’s your touring schedule looking like for the coming months?
At the moment my team is building my show schedule around the world. I can’t talk much about it, but we’re working on a very cool live stream that will air this summer. All my new shows are announced on my Instagram, so make sure to follow me there.
The best clubs or venues you would like to play at are?
I would love to perform at DC-10 in Ibiza. It’s an amazing crowd and a top-tier club that would really capture the essence of my music. As for festivals, I’ve always had my eye on Kappa FuturFestival in Italy. It’s very international and absolutely beautiful. The crowd there always looks so dedicated, and I would love to be a part of that. Tomorrowland is also a big dream of mine; I think the quality of production there is second to none. It’s so colourful and happy! Maybe next year 🙂
And any upcoming music or projects we can look forward to?
So many! We have two new releases coming up in July: one original and one remix. One of them will be part of a well-known compilation, so I’m super excited about that. It’s going to be a busy summer!
