The Ukranian duo who recently scored releases on Diynamic and Suara ARTBAT, may seem relatively new on the scene but Artur and Batish have both been DJs for nearly 10 years. ARTBAT’s new EP ‘Lose My Mind’ is out now, which was the reason for us to have a short conversation with the guys and get to know them better.
Hey guys, how are things with you? You’ve had a busy few months we see 🙂
Hi, Everything goes amazing now, we have interesting gigs and lots of fun in studio making new stuff too 🙂
Tell us about your recent release ‘Strap’ on Eklektisch? How did that come about with the label?
We worked on this track a lot last year. When we got this vocal we liked it and wanted to make something powerful and combine club and festival energy it it.
What is life in Ukraine like right now? It’s been a difficult couple of years right?
Life in Ukraine can not be characterized only from one side now. A lot of changes in all spheres. There are, like the enormous difficulties associated with the military conflict in the east of Ukraine and the financial crisis that came after the revolution of 2014. But there are also positive shifts in the social and economic sphere, gradually as other people come to power and the control from the people increases. Also, higher hopes are being brought about by closer cooperation with Europe and America, instead of Russia, which is aggressive towards us. Slowly, but here many people want to change and integrate into the world community as a worthy member.
Do you try and use those experiences to make your music politically or socially aware maybe?
So much politics around and we try not to let her into our creative work. On the contrary, we like to make tracks with vocals in which there is a spiritual and mental message. Thus, we can share our views and thoughts with people.
In the DJ booth, how does it work – do you play back to back or do half an hour each or?
Yeah, we always playing in back 2 back style, It happens that one of us is certain that we need to put a certain track, then one of us plays 2 or 3 tracks in a row.
What is your weekly routine like – do you always keep set hours in the studio?
During the week we usually resting at Monday after weekend gigs, then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after 17.00 we usually have studio time and on Friday we prepare for a weekend of gigs and travels. During the whole week we always spend some time for searching new music and of course some time for family and friends.
And what do you like to do outside of music?
Maybe near 80% of our life comes around music, Artur making parties in place called CHI by Decadence House. It’s very atmospheric and beautiful designed place with cool soundsystem and artists from all over the world every week. He is making management and booking stuff for this venue. Batish spends much time with his son and family. It’s really not much time outside of music :))
Can you talk us through the mix that you have done for us today? What was your thoughts when making it?
When we making mixes, we always thinking about what music we want left in the history of electronic. Music that reflects interesting and vivid trends of the present. A certain story from us about a journey through the sound in which you disappear for a while and then get back to it many times.
What’s the next big project you are working on?
We can’t say a big or small project. We are working in the studio to make new tracks and share them with people, tracks that can help celebrate the life and inspire someone for emotions of happiness and love.
