Spain’s tourism minister, Reyes Maroto, used an appearance on national television on Friday to promise that the country will “guarantee safe mobility as of June”.
This is when the EU’s ‘digital green certificate’ vaccine passport is due to be operational, an initiative that Spain has been supportive of since the beginning of the year and which will unlock tourism for its mainland and islands, including Ibiza, as Mixmag reports.
“These will allow our country to reopen safely and be pioneers,” Maroto said of the certificate, which will allow travellers to show they’ve been vaccinated against Covid-19, recently recovered from the virus or had a negative test result via a QR code.
Maroto said that Spain is currently working with its main tourism markets – which includes the UK – to prepare for the relaunch of safe international tourism.
