One of techno’s brightest contemporary stars, Enrico Sangiuliano, has been embarking on a journey of self-growth and musical discovery through his temporary record label NINETOZERO. Following the chart-topping success of his Reflection EP alongside Charlotte de Witte back in March, the Emilia native now unveils the next conceptually-directed chapter in the imprint’s finite anthology of releases. The two-track Physical Change EP is out now across all streaming platforms, landing ahead of his correlative SOLO show at 99 Scott, New York on May 13.
As the EP’s title suggests, Sangiuliano’s latest offering analyses the notion of physical change in all its forms. Tethered to the roots of NINETOZERO’s overruling theme of time, his latest works express the narrative of mutation and evolution within sound. The extended player’s title track presents as a peak-time worthy offering with an erratic edge. Experimenting with distorted, acid-leaning synth lines, the track’s melodic complexities serve as a sonic depiction of the unpredictability of change. Pulse Of Progression is another hard-hitting cut with endless amounts of intrigue and originality. True to its name, the B-side delivers a tantalising web of melodic synth intricacies above a pulsating foundation of percussion, giving listeners a real sense of progression and journey within the concept of change.
In conjunction with NINETOZERO’s countdown of releases, Enrico launched his SOLO event series last year at the late Marktkantine, Amsterdam. Expanding the label’s narrative and ethos into an immersive live event, his all-night-long shows highlight the evanescent beauty of music and club culture, whilst providing audiences with the intended setting to experience his NINETOZERO opuses. Celebrating this latest chapter, Enrico brings his SOLO show to Scott 99, New York on May 13, marking the series’ first stateside edition to date.
