The global electronic music community is mourning the loss of three artists whose contributions helped shape the culture from very different corners of the scene. John “Jammin” Collins, Kavinsky, and Nico Stojan have all passed away, leaving behind remarkable legacies that will continue to inspire generations of artists and fans.
Detroit techno has lost one of its most passionate ambassadors with the passing of John “Jammin” Collins. A pioneering DJ, educator, and cultural advocate, Collins was a key figure in preserving and promoting the city’s techno heritage. Closely affiliated with Underground Resistance and a founding member of Detroit Techno Militia, he spent decades championing the origins of Detroit techno while mentoring countless artists and sharing its history with audiences around the world. His influence reached far beyond the DJ booth, making him one of the genre’s most respected voices.
The electronic music world has also said goodbye to Kavinsky (Vincent Belorgey), the French producer whose unmistakable synthwave sound left an enduring mark on modern electronic music. Best known for the iconic track Nightcall, which became a defining soundtrack of the film Drive, Kavinsky helped bring retro-futuristic electronic music to a global audience. Through releases such as OutRun and Reborn, he created a unique sonic identity that inspired countless producers and became synonymous with the resurgence of synthwave.
Meanwhile, the Berlin scene is mourning Nico Stojan, the acclaimed DJ, producer, and longtime Bar 25 resident. Renowned for his emotionally driven house and organic electronic sound, Stojan built a devoted international following through his performances, productions, and the co-founding of the Ouïe Music label. His music reflected a deep sense of connection, freedom, and storytelling, while those who knew him remember him as a warm, humble, and inspiring presence both on and off the stage.
Although each artist followed a different musical path, they shared a common passion for pushing electronic music forward and fostering communities around it. Their contributions transcended genres, influencing countless musicians and leaving an undeniable impact on dance music culture.
