Officials in France put out a public statement to let citizens know that snorting cocaine will not cure coronavirus.
“No, cocaine does NOT protect against COVID-19,″ the French health ministry tweeted Sunday. “It is an addictive drug that causes serious side effects and is harmful to people’s health.”
Rumors to the contrary went viral online in recent weeks, thanks in part to social media users including The Brian Jonestown Massacre singer Anton Newcombe posting fake news alerts stating a little blow can chase away the respiratory infection that has killed more than 4,500 people.
Other social media users have also suggested that dangerous elixirs like bleach can cure the infection for which there is no known remedy.
“Public Service Announcement: WARNING: if you have recently purchased cocaine, meth, heroin, or any other street drugs locally, it may be contaminated with the Corona Virus,” cops in the northeast Florida beach community wrote.
