This week on CLUB ZOOM IN we are covering the best night venue in Ukraine – Closer.
“Think Kyiv, think Closer” has become a slogan synonymous with the Ukrainian capital. The city has long been known for wild techno parties, and in the beginning, Closer made its name as one of the city’s best clubs. But Closer represents more than a club, it is a creative hub with galleries, shops, showrooms, and a radio station, not to mention Closer’s major festivals such as Strichka and Brave! Factory.
Closer club combines art, rave and techno music. It is placed in a former factory in the old part of the city to present a diverse musical program. Closer is also a place where Nastia’s Strichka festival is being held every year.
The tiny club can’t match the fees paid by bigger places, but its reputation for a feverish crowd and warm atmosphere draws heavyweight names. That’s how Villalobos became an annual fixture at Masquerade, one of the most anticipated nights of the year.
In the opinion of many, Closer is the best club in Ukraine, and if you are yet to discover this spiritual and uplifting place.
At first, says Closer co-founder Sergey Yatsenko, they only had four DJs, Basha, Vova Klk, Bambu, and Shakolin.
As the years passed, some of the notable names that played in Closer include include Nastia, Dr. Rubinstein, Helena Hauff, Sebastian Mullaert, Steffi etc.
Closer is known for their summer events. Leaving the party gets even harder in the summer when house DJs lay down subtle grooves on Lesnoy Prichal, a sunny outdoor terrace primed for tireless after-hours sessions.
Closer is not a club – this is a cultural center.
