Elektrons is proud to announce its third release and the first artist signing to the label: live performer and producer Anahit Vardanyan. Known for her captivating performances and innovative soundscapes, Vardanyan arrives on Hannes Bieger’s label with her debut release, Avyun.
Vardanyan’s background is as eclectic as her music. Her classical training intersects with years of club experience, creating a unique blend that speaks to both her Armenian heritage and her adult life in Hamburg. This combination of influences, coupled with her deep understanding of how sound and vibration affect the human psyche, makes her an exceptional artist who embodies the ethos of Elektrons.
Avyun is more than just music – it’s a deeply personal project for Vardanyan, who also created the artwork for the release. She painted two pieces, each representing one of the tracks on the EP, making this a holistic creative endeavor.
The title track, Avyun, is a powerful tribute to Vardanyan’s Armenian roots. Traditional Armenian instruments like the duduk and dhol are interwoven with modern electronic elements, creating a soundscape that is both passionate and deeply evocative. The low-end oscillations, layered synths, and bold progression bring a fresh energy to the dance floor. Vardanyan describes the track as “a celebration of the eternal bond between a people and their homeland,” and the stirring production indeed feels like an awakening of her Armenian lineage.
The second track, Haratev (Armenian for “Eternity”), continues this narrative with a driving rhythm and a mesmerizing melody. From the piano-tinged intro to the use of minor chords, the track carries a sense of sorrow but is also imbued with hope. The juxtaposition of tones, alongside the intricate drum programming, gives Haratev a unique appeal that feels simultaneously introspective and uplifting. As Vardanyan puts it, the track serves as “a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there exists a perpetual light that shines brightly, guiding us towards hope and resilience.”
With her debut release on Elektrons, Anahit Vardanyan brings a graceful, emotive, and potent energy to the label. The combination of her heartfelt production and rich conceptual storytelling makes Avyun a captivating journey through sound, culture, and emotion. Her music is a perfect match for Hannes Bieger’s vision for Elektrons – forward-thinking, deeply moving, and progressive.
