Hi Alexis, how are you starting this autumn season?
Hello there! I’m starting of this season happy, after making the decision to release again.
I remember your track Rebecca Loos, which was released 10 years ago. It was a huge hit back then and everybody was eager to play it. At least in Russia, where I used to live back then. I always wondered – who is that Rebecca Loos?
Funny that you remember that track, at that time people told me Luciano and Steve Bug were playing it but I never caught someone playing it except myself.
My next release on Lessismore called “Imagine This Picture That” will be a new version of “Rebecca Loos” This release will contain the old version (little different), a remix by Gui Boratto and a totally new interpretation of my own work.
Concerning your question who Rebecca Loos is, I can tell you she is a woman who got herself mixed up in a situation that was exposed in the media. The story is of course about sex, therefore the phrase “he knows what you want and he gives it to you”.
Know It When You See It is different musically, but still contains your touch. Tell us about the journey you went through in the 10 years between your first releases and the one we are expecting for at Lessismore.
It has been a journey I can say, pfff. It is always hard to say that you’re wrong and to admit to one self that you have made a stupid decision. This decision was to stop with doing something creative for myself. But now I’m working hard on making music again.
On the record “Know It When You See It” I think I give a more clear picture of what I would play as a DJ. On the plus side you have a more typical Alexis Tyrel track with a melody and on the other side (minus side) there are some more techno / dirty house like tracks that I would also play in a dj set.
To be concrete: after the new Rebecca Loos release, I will have a track coming out with MBC which is remixed by a cool artist duo from Berlin.
By the way, how did you hook up with Lessismore? You haven’t released anything in a few years, if to believe your Discogs page.
I have always been part of the Lessismore family, Lessismore is build on friendship and I hope that will always be the case. So releasing there was like coming home. And yeah Discogs is partly right about my discography because there have not always been a match with all my productions. But for Alexis Tyrel they are probably correct, I have not checked
You have an interesting selection of remixers for the EP. Hernan Cattaneo and Gideon. How did you chose them?
I did not really choose the remixers. (Lessismore arranged that). But having Hernan Cattaneo on the record makes it very special and interesting. He is a legend and did a very nice job. I heard him play the remix at Woodstock (this is a venue on the beach in Holland) and the crowd started acting like they knew the track (you know what I mean) but that was not the case because the promo did not go out yet. So, it will be interesting to see how this will turn out!

First track you heard in the morning
I commute 4 hours when going to work so most of the time I am listening to my own music and analyse it. For example where I’m going to change things. I am pretty much working full time, but what I am definitely into at the moment is a DJ set by Dj Stingray. Unfortunately it has no track listing. Furthermore I’m listening to Anthony Rother on repeat (his Maschinewelt, Destroy Him, My Robots and Life If Live). At ADE I ran in to Mr Rother backstage and I told him that he should release Life if Live on vinyl but he told me he would not, that’s a pity.
What will you see right now if you turn right?
I see another day at the office in Amsterdam, how can I describe this as it’s not so interesting as a visual picture.
The most annoying thing recently :
Nothing is coming into my mind so this is good. Hope to keep this state of mind.
