Since 1994 Sónar festival has been the link between music, creativity, and technology. It’s a meeting point for creative people focused on progress and innovation. Each year, for one weekend in June, Barcelona is flooded by thousands of music enthusiasts from all over the world. It’s held in two different places: in the city center during the day (Sónar by Day), and further out of town during the night (Sónar by Night). There’s also the Sónar +D, an international conference which covers the digital transformation of the creative industry.
The 24h edition of the festival will officially last from the 15th – 17th of June. However, cultural activities will take place throughout the city for an entire week. From Monday the 12th till Sunday the 18th, Barcelona will become an unparalleled stage for international contemporary culture. A wide range of activities and artistic formats will take place throughout city’s different cultural spaces, for an authentic Sónar Week.
The eccentric Björk will open the festival with a special DJ set at SonarHall on Wednesday, June 14th. Fabric’s resident Craig Richards, the Glasgowian house master Denis Sulta, HVOB (Her Voice Over Boys) – two producers from Vienna and Prins Thomas, a Norwegian record producer will heat up Sónar by Day on Thursday.
The charismatic Damian Lazarus and Floorplan’s live act will rock Friday’s Sónar by Day, while Sónar by Night offers an abundance of great artists such as the continuously innovative Dubfire, a 6h set by Masters at Work, the splendid Moderat, the perspective Nicolas jaar, and the techno queen – Nina Kraviz.
Saturday is reserved for Joe Goddard’s live act & Christopher Michael Taylor aka Sohn during the day. At Sónar by Night you can relive the ‘90s hip hop with De La Soul, rave with Marco Carola, dance with the Black Madonna or enjoy a 6h trip Seth Troxler & Tiga will take you on. The closing act on Sunday is the Spanish premiere of “Death Speaks”, by the prestigious American composer David Lang.
