In the past 20 years M-nus head honcho, the man that marked the future sound of techno on his own imprint, picked only a selected few to be part of his pack. Magda, Marc Houle, Ambivalent & Matador are only a few names who were nourished by Hawtin and went out of the greenhouse to show the world that they have their own signature sound and approach.
In the last “Enter.” season in Ibiza it seemed that a new pack was chosen but was still under the watchful eye of the mentor, yet in the year that passed since “Enter.” had left Ibiza it seems that the pack is on its way to conquer every continent on their own under the wings of the legendary M-nus Label.
This coming Saturday the magnificent three, Fabio Florido, Carlo Ruetz & Hito will attend their first ever M-nus showcase in a magical open air venue on the shore of the Mediterranean sea in Tel Aviv.
Fabio Florido is one of the new faces of M-nus and someone to watch.
Fabio was born in Italy and spent his teenage years at “Giuseppe Verdi” academy in Prato, a municipal school of music, taking its roots in XVIII century. His younger years were devoted to music, classical music in school and club culture & electronic music after.
Fabio started producing and seriously DJing after moving to London in 2007. Being passionate about his dreams, he didn’t sit and wait and moved to Ibiza in 2012, where he came in contact with Richie Hawtin and his “Enter.” family. In 2014 he became the resident at “Enter.” That was a new big step in his career..
Can you tell us about the past year after you moved to Berlin and
ENTER. left Ibiza
It was a great year I must say. Moving to Berlin was a perfect
decision and it happened at the right moment of my life experience. I
think “moving” and “learning” from different cultures should be at the
basics for any Artist who wants to define and bring his/her sound to
the next level. Berlin gave me a lot of new inputs and opportunities
which i couldn’t find anywhere else. After falling in love with its
frenetic nightlife i got the chance to play in many of its clubs going
from dark techno sweaty rooms to deep fresh open air.
What can you tell us about Richie’s new mixer? Do you use it
often? What is the difference for you when you play on it? Do you play
differently?
Hehe, well I think it’s exactly what needed to happen nowadays in our
music scene. It’s an option that was missing from the market for all
those Artists who wants to move forward, challenge themselves, look
for new possibilities to play their music in a different way. You need
several times to get used to it but one thing is for sure, after the
first time you already know you just played differently! I’m
personally in love with the massive quality Sound (especially low
freq) , then the smooth filters and the special one band EQ on every
channel which i use a lot to transit from one track to another and
maybe even go back and forward between the decks playing with the
feeling that what comes out is “one big thing” and not four different
tracks. I’am enjoying a lot more my job now.. We are taking it to Tel
Aviv, you will tell us afterwards!!
A lot is being written about the changes that the White Island is
going through, since you spent a lot of time on Ibiza can you share
your thoughts about it?
Ibiza has been mutating since the beginning of its history. I’m not
old enough to remember the first clubs without roof with the real
terraces and hippies communities but I do remember when I was going
there for holidays and later doing PR on the streets, everyone knew
where to go with accurate schedule and timetables of their favorites
nights/djs. We were there for a unique common reason, the Music.
Like for everything else in our world, there are waves of what is
trendy, nothing is never the same for more than a decade so yeah..
Looks like now is the time of VIP and even more selfies hehe. But
don’t worry, Ibiza will never loose its Magic and I hope there is
still space for all the people who want to enjoy the Island for its
real essence.
Any new releases coming up?
Yes, Finally. I will release a power EP on Dubfire’s SCI+TEC label in
July. Followed by another but more techno EP on Pig&Dan imprint
ELEVATE. But also something more Groovie out on 303Lovers. I’m working
on some cool remixes too, soon more info!
Where can we catch you this summer?
I’m very happy to have a nice busy summer ahead this year with
appearance in big Festivals like AUDIORIVER in Poland, EXIT in
Slovenia, AWAKENINGS Netherlands, VOODOO VILLAGE in Belgium plus other
to be announced and of course a bunch of great gigs…..stay tuned!
Who is your favorite dj at the moment maybe you can tell us about
a newcomer that we should put our eyes & ears on?
As you know my biggest font of inspiration and first Dj who I’ve
started to follow is actually Richie Hawtin. Regarding newcomer Djs I
can’t choose one now because I’m in that moment of looking for new
inspiration but still haven’t find someone who I really like. But if I
have to mention one is Carlo Ruetz, great producer and talented Dj!
We Will Be Streaming the M-nus Showcase, Don’t miss it!
